Dr. Kaitlin Yourous is a seasoned special education expert dedicated to simplifying the complexities of special education law and practices for teachers and families who have students with disabilities and learning difficulties. With over a decade of experience in the North Carolina public school system, she founded Unravel Education to help untangle the knotty world of special education and empower homeschool, private, and public school families through tailored consulting and practical training.

Dr. Yourous began her journey in education in 2013 as a middle school Exceptional Children teacher, but quickly developed a skill set and reputation for coaching other educators on special education processes. Most recently, she served as the Moore County Schools Compliance Specialist for Exceptional Children in Carthage, NC where she provided daily guidance and customized training on IDEA, state special education policy and practices to 23 schools—supporting over 1,900 students with disabilities. She simultaneously served as the liaison for homeschool and private school families seeking public school evaluations. As the primary point of contact, she coached parents on the evaluation process and assisted them in gathering the right data to ensure fair eligibility decisions–a skillset she still offers today. Additionally as the lead district mentor to 30+ beginning special education teachers, she honed her knack for coaching the eager, but inexperienced…a skill she now brings to families.

Currently, Dr. Yourous teaches at Sandhills Classical Christian School in Whispering Pines, NC, where she has been blessed with the daily opportunity to pour her expertise and ministry into every student she encounters. Holding a Doctorate of Education and Master of Arts in Teaching Special Education from Liberty University, Dr. Yourous combines her deep knowledge of special education policy and passion for advocacy with practical expertise to help families navigate special education with ease.
